My favourite douchebag of all

Audiobook Review

How to Date a Douchebag: The Failing Hours by Sara Ney

Listening to Sara Ney’s How to Date a Douchebag: The Failing Hours was a “reread” for me as I read the ebook last year when I first fell in love with Zeke and Violet. Zeke will forever be my favourite douchebag as he epitomises the perfect hero that I love to root for – the guy who you start out loving to hate and then by the end of the book you just love them. And Violet is so real and so perfectly imperfect and I love how she brings out the best in Zeke 💕

As far as audiobooks go, this is a fairly good one. I had the same issue with the female narrator – Muffy Newton – as I did when I listened to The Studying Hours; when she does the male voices, it’s a bit too “try hard” and is pretty irritating to listen to. I do get used to it but she’s not my preferred narrator when it comes to this dual style. Josh Goodman I’m the other hand is the PERFECT Zeke and I love listening to him 😍😍 One other thing, both the narrators needed to take a breath and just pause when it came to some sections of the book – eg. when the scene changed or moved on – as I found that I’d wondered what was going on and why the topic being discussed had changed or the conversation had ceased and then I realised it was because there was a break in the scene and the narrators just needed to acknowledge that with a pause before they continued on.

Overall this is an absolutely fabulous story and a great audiobook that I’d definitely recommend.

Fall in love with the Taint boys 😉😍

Revelry by Carmen Jenner

I first read Carmen Jenner’s book Revelry – the first book in her rockstar Taint series – last year and listening to the audio was a “reread” for me. And I have to say I loved the storyline just as much as I did the first time around. Cooper is the lead singer of Taint and has had a rough time after his ex and mother of his child has left him, and he’s not coping well at all. Enter Ali, an employee of Taint’s record company who happens to walk in and captivate Coop. So much so that he demands she become his PA and join Taint on their world tour. What follows is a realistic portrayal of rock stars on tours – drugs, sex, groupies, fan girls, more sex, alcohol, concerts, threesomes, drunken antics, paparazzi and, yes, more sex 😉 It’s one of the most honest telling of rockstar life in a romance novel I have read – it doesn’t gloss over the shocking behind-the-scenes antics and male rockstar life appealing, because it definitely isn’t!!

As for the audio version of this book, I have to say the female narrator did not provide a great listening experience and her version of the male voices was grating. However, I enjoyed the male narrator’s voice (reminded me a lot of an Aussie soapie actor!) and that’s what kept me listening.

Overall, the story is INCREDIBLE and the audio narration is ok. I definitely plan on doing an actual reread of this book ASAP as Carmen has recently announced the next book in the series and I can’t wait!!

More tears, more joy, more love

Harley and Rose (audio) by Carmen Jenner, narrated by Paula Hoffman and Aaron Abano

(Note: I’ve just used the questions from Audible’s site to help me write this review)

What did you love best about Harley & Rose?

Harley and Rose is one of my favourite tear jerkers ever and hearing it in audio didn’t change that. Despite being dual narration , Paula Hoffman did an incredible job as both Harley and Rose (and Aaron Abano was great as well) and at no time was I taken out of the story even though a female was doing most of the audio.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Harley & Rose?

This is too hard to answer without spoiling the story. There’s so many parts that I love … you’ll just have to listen for yourself to find yours!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Is this a trick question?!?! It’s HARLEY AND ROSE!!! The entire book moved me but the last few chapters of the book (last hour and half in audio) had me openly sobbing. But again – no spoilers!!

Any additional comments?

I wasn’t sure how I would go listening to Harley and Rose after I fell in love with the book. But I can safely say that I loved the audio just as much as the book. It had the same feeling, brought about all the same emotions and was a great way to revisit this story and this couple – even if I shed way more tears yet again!!

No Challenge to enjoy this book in audio

Challenge by Amy Daws
Narrated by Will M Watt, Charlotte Cole, Martin Foster
Length 10 hours and 22 minutes

I fell in love with Camden and Indie when I first read Amy Daws’ Challenge a few months back. But to hear them in audio made me love them just that bit more.

Will Watt and Charlotte Cole give flawless performances and make listening to the story enjoyable and fun and emotional. And Martin Foster hits the mark with his portrayal of Dr Pritchard who gave me the heebie-jeebies in the book, but in audio had me truly creeped out – which means Martin succeeded in his role.

This is a fabulous story, a phenomenal audio book and EVERYONE should get on board and take the CHALLENGE 😉😂😂
