When one item of shoe wear can conjure up an entire story!

Boots by Megan Erickson

“Funny how you think you have nothing to lose until you lose it all.”

Boots was my introduction to Megan Erickson and after what began as a free newsletter subscriber serial book, I knew I would be hooked and have to read more by this talented author. This story has a bit of everything – romance, suspense, violence, humour and a couple in Tara and Lance that will burrow in deep!!

I loved the connection these two shared almost straight away and add to that with their shared pasts and this story is so gripping you will devour it as quick as I did. It’s a quick read now that I can do so in one sitting and yet there were plenty of chapters where I remember being so frustrated with Megan because she left us newsletter subscribers on a massive cliffhanger.

If you love romantic suspense, if you love hot, panty-wetting sex scenes, if you love quick, captivating reads … then grab Boots.

I fell in love with Emma and Tucker all over again

My Best Friend’s Ex by Meghan Quinn
Narrated in dual narration by Rudy Sanda and Amelie Griffin

The two leads in My Best Friends Ex – Emma Marks and Tucker Jamieson – will forever be one of my all time favourite couples and their story is one I will never get sick of. Hearing it in audio made me fall in love with them all over again and I know I’ll be doing a re-read or re-listen very soon!!

I really enjoyed the audio and despite it being dual narration, it’s definitely one I’d love to listen to again and again. Rudy Sanda was the ideal Tucker and I look forward to hearing him as a racer when I get around to listening to Twisted Twosome. His version of Emma was also really pleasant to listen to and I appreciated that as well. Amelie Griffin was a fabulous Emma and while her male voices weren’t outstanding, they weren’t irritating so I consider that a massive win.

I’d definitely recommend this as an audiobook and I don’t need to rave about the actual story because my love for it and these characters is pretty evident!!!

My favourite douchebag of all

Audiobook Review

How to Date a Douchebag: The Failing Hours by Sara Ney

Listening to Sara Ney’s How to Date a Douchebag: The Failing Hours was a “reread” for me as I read the ebook last year when I first fell in love with Zeke and Violet. Zeke will forever be my favourite douchebag as he epitomises the perfect hero that I love to root for – the guy who you start out loving to hate and then by the end of the book you just love them. And Violet is so real and so perfectly imperfect and I love how she brings out the best in Zeke 💕

As far as audiobooks go, this is a fairly good one. I had the same issue with the female narrator – Muffy Newton – as I did when I listened to The Studying Hours; when she does the male voices, it’s a bit too “try hard” and is pretty irritating to listen to. I do get used to it but she’s not my preferred narrator when it comes to this dual style. Josh Goodman I’m the other hand is the PERFECT Zeke and I love listening to him 😍😍 One other thing, both the narrators needed to take a breath and just pause when it came to some sections of the book – eg. when the scene changed or moved on – as I found that I’d wondered what was going on and why the topic being discussed had changed or the conversation had ceased and then I realised it was because there was a break in the scene and the narrators just needed to acknowledge that with a pause before they continued on.

Overall this is an absolutely fabulous story and a great audiobook that I’d definitely recommend.

Sports Romance at its best!!

Team Player – Anthology

This is a whopping anthology with 11 authors contributing decent length short stories about sports romance. To be honest, I only bought it because a few of my favourite authors were taking part and so I’ve read all the stories I’ve wanted to and I hope to (someday) get to the others but for now the set of stories is going back on the bookshelf.

Read my reviews for the stories I read below.

Switch Hitter by Sara Ney

In my opinion, Sara writes the best college based romance novels (see the Douchebag series) and this one, even though it’s short, hits a home run 😉 It made me laugh, it gave me some feels and it left me like this 😮 I loved the lead characters, loved the plot and I want more!!!!

One Good Man by Emma Scott

This is my first experience of Emma Scott’s work but it won’t be my last. I did not expect an absolutely heartfelt romance set in Paris, France under the backdrop of the Vietnam War in the 70s. But this story was absolute perfection – a football, a journalist and a whole lot of emotion ❤️❤️

Back in the Game by Meghan Quinn

I love everything Meghan writes so I knew her contribution to Team Player would be awesome!! And it was everything I could have hoped for:

Super sexy male lead who has a sweet and sensitive side – CHECK

A female lead who is funny, caring and hot – CHECK

A best friend we want to know more about – CHECK

Too many laugh out loud moments to count – CHECK

A fabulous story with the best text message conversations I have ever seen – CHECK

The End Zone by L.J. Shen

I’ve heard so many good things about Leigh Shen and I have big plans to read all her books this year. But starting with this short novella was perfect and has cemented why everyone raves about her. A friends to lovers romance, Sage and Jolie have a beautiful history together which makes their romance all the more sweeter. Yes the story takes place in a sport context but this is a romance that’s so much more than that. It’s about the couple and boy do they fit together … in steamy, sweet and swoon worthy ways.

Sweeping the Series by Kate Stewart

Kate Stewart is an author I’ve heard so much about and just haven’t got round to reading yet. But after this short story I know she’s going to end up high on my tbr! This was a fabulous story of second chance love, of redeeming past mistakes and of discovering that love and baseball can sit hand in hand. I’m keen to read more of Kate’s work – because if it’s as fabulous as Sweeping the Series I know I won’t be disappointed.

A great premise and a good mix of stories

Tales of Vixen Falls – Anthology

I was keen to read this anthology after hearing that two authors I know (and one I like) were contributing. I started with the stories by those familiar authors and they set a high bar that really wasn’t reached by the other novellas I read. I’ll admit I didn’t get around to finish the whole anthology as I got caught up reading other books – but I do hope to get back to it some day.

Binding Incantations by Brandy Slaven

This was my first witch/warlock based paranormal romance and I have to say I quite liked it. Myra is a witch struggling to not use her powers as she believes she is cursed and Zane is a warlock sent to protect and help this young woman. My only difficulties with the story was wrapping my head around some “witch based” terms that weren’t fully explained and the fact that the story ended on a WHOPPING cliffhanger 😮😮 Other than that, this was a great short story with two likeable leads and a very intriguing paranormal context.

Start of Something New by Cathy Johns

A nice, steamy romance about a couple who stumble into one another and realise that perhaps it was meant to be. I could tell that Cathy is a new author as this novella lacked some of the finesse of a more experienced writer; there was some repetition of the character’s thoughts and the plot line was interesting but not particularly compelling. In saying that, it was a lovely story to read and I enjoyed seeing Jake and Melanie come together.

It’s Always Been You by Bella Emy

A sweet story of friends to lovers that happens when Chase and Riley go on a road trip to Vixen Falls so Chase can propose to his girlfriend. Best friends since they were kids, Riley has loved Chase forever but Chase only sees Riley as a friend. The story is sweet and the flashbacks were fabulous. But I felt the ending was rushed and a little cheesy – which was disappointing after such a good build up.

Full Contact by Emily Reed

I really enjoyed this sweet love story between Austen the football player and Jess his physical therapist. It had all the hallmarks of a good story – relatable characters, some conflict, steamy sex scenes and a great location. While I definitely enjoyed the story and read it all in one sitting, I did think that both Austen and Jess were a little underdeveloped as characters – whether it was the word limit constraint (of being in an anthology) or inexperience from the author, I’m not sure. Despite this, Full Contact is one of my favourite stories from this collection

Scarred by Elizabeth Knox

This story was absolutely incredible. I loved that Vixen Falls was just a simple setting in what was a hard hitting motorcycle club based story that managed to squeeze in your typical MC life, a sad case of domestic violence and the beginnings of a beautiful love story. Roxy and Tex have a history and unfortunately made choices that didn’t lead them done a happy path. But every day is a chance to start again and rewrite your story, and Elizabeth Knox does a brilliant job of demonstrating what can happen when you’re ready to make a change.

Could it be Love by Stacey McCoy

I’m already a huge fan of Stacey’s so I was keen to read her contribution to this anthology and I was not disappointed. I loved Cara – the feisty, independent woman – being dragged to a health retreat that just happens to be near the mystical Vixen Falls. When she meets tour guide Ethan, her lifelong stance of “love is not for me” starts to crumble. Is it the Falls or is it more? A hot, steamy and hilarious romance, Stacey delivers a great story yet again.

Short and sweet – a nice, easy read

It Started with a Kiss – Anthology

I was keen to read this anthology as one of my favourite, must-read authors (Stacey McCoy) is a contributor and so I was hoping the rest of the stories would be ones I enjoyed. Overall I enjoyed this anthology, however as you will see by the individual reviews and ratings I’ve given each novella, in my opinion the stories got better the further you read.

I would definitely recommend this anthology to other readers however at this stage I don’t think I’ll be seeking out books by the authors I’m unfamiliar with. A great set of quickie novellas, It Started with a Kiss showcases some sexy, sweet and fun romance stories.

Whatever it takes by Cathy Johns

This was a super sweet second chance romance. After three years apart, a chance encounter brings Shae and Marcus back together and the realisation that the love between them never died is enough to give each other the second chance the both desperately need.

It was a super quick and easy read. I’ll be honest it’s not one of my favourites – there seemed like so much more could’ve happened but as it was set over the period of basically a day or two, I felt that things dragged a bit. I did enjoy reading about Marcus and Shae reconnecting but I just didn’t feel a strong connection to them as characters.

Meant to be by C.J. Welles

A sexy, drama-filled novella, I enjoyed reading about Brett and Annie coming together. It was definitely an easy read and despite the “insta-love” connection between Brett and Annie, they’re chemistry was definitely palpable and clear.

For me, I felt that the C.J. tried to pack too much into the novella. There were ex- dramas, parental problems galore and the age difference between 30 year old Brett and 18 year old Annie (who was still in school) was never adequately discussed or explored. I did enjoy the story but for a novella it would’ve been better for the story to focus on a few issues well rather than cram so much in.

Twisted Fate by J.A. Collard

I quite enjoyed this novella and was so disappointed when it ended as I really felt it could’ve been fleshed out into a full length story. Jake and Caitlin meet at a bar and have an instant connection – it’s more than lust, more than simple attraction but neither are really ready for more than a one night stand. However, that one night has far recent consequences and I liked how the two were forced to find each other again.

The chemistry between Jake and Caitlin was fabulous and the sex scenes were hot and steamy 🔥 But I did wish that their emotional connection could’ve been explored a little more – I really feel like this couple has so much more to offer us. This was another great contribution to this anthology.

Worth the Risk by Stacey McCoy

I am proud to say that I’m a massive fan of Stacey’s and have loved everything g she has written – and her contribution to this novella is no different. A sexy, steamy story about a hook up that happens when Corey becomes Ashley’s “knight in shining armour” and rescues her from a couple of drunken idiots, turns into a beautiful romance with a touch of drama and a few twists and turns. I loved Ashley’s bestie Tammy – she was hilarious and her secretiveness defiantly paid off. And the chemistry between Corey and Ashley was hot 🔥🔥 and while it was definitely insta-love, in a quickie novella like this, I totally lapped it up!! I was just disappointed that it ended when it did as I really could have read more Corey and Tammy.

A fabulous story by an author I know we will continue to see great things from!

Dark, erotic and perfectly imperfect

The Unrequited by Saffron A Kent

This book was one that popped up quite a bit on my social media last year and it sounded like something I would enjoy – a dark, heavy and erotic romance that might challenge me…bring it on. This is my first book my Saffron A Kent but it won’t be my last – her writing is captivating, her ability to make me love a story when I’m still not sure if I even liked the main characters for most of the book is outstanding and a credit to her obvious talent as a writer. And The Unrequited is a book that isn’t easy to read – but just as Layla and Thomas become addicted to each other, I became addicted to them and their story.

“My eyes are on the verge of falling shut when I hear him whisper, almost distractedly, “You bring them back…my words.”

This book will challenge a lot of people. It contains themes and scenes that will make some readers uncomfortable and Saffron warns readers of that at the start of the book (something I don’t think she needs to do but that’s a discussion for another forum). Me, I have no problem with it. I’m an adult and I’m reading fiction, so as long as the plot line hooks me and the writing is top-notch, I have no problem with confronting themes.

Thomas and Layla find each other in unexpected and (to be honest) inappropriate circumstances. She’s a college student, sent away for falling in unrequited love which ended in her doing something pretty shocking. And he’s a married father of one and a college professor. But they share a connection – a meeting of souls and an understanding that goes beyond the situation they find themselves in. And reading their story – while at times uncomfortable – was a really fascinating journey. I spent a fair portion of the book wondering why these two would keep going back to one another – especially Thomas, as Layla’s immaturity and naivety was grating at times. However somewhere along the way I started to feel for Layla, I started to understand her and the book as a whole got easier to read, easier to appreciate and easier to not to put down.

Saffron is one hell of a writer. The sex scenes are erotic and sensual, but it’s her talent in writing about something taboo and forbidden that I really liked. I’m looking forward to reading her previous release and her upcoming book – I want to see if I can be just as challenged, just as captivated and fall in love with the characters (eventually) just as much.

And don’t forget to read the Extended Epilogue

My Best Friend’s Ex – what a dilemma and what a laugh out loud, fabulous story

My Best Friend’s Ex by Meghan Quinn

This is my first book by Meghan Quinn and it definitely won’t be my last. I’ve never read a book that has made me laugh out loud more in my life – and yet have some heartfelt moments and some truly romantic scenes.

MBFE Teaser

Emma and Tucker are old friends as Emma’s best friend Sadie is Tucker’s ex and (was) the love of his life. Emma is in her final semester of her nursing degree and needs a place to stay when she’s evicted from her apartment. A chance encounter with Tucker results in him offering Emma a room in his house – and when nothing else comes up Emma takes her old friend up on the room and the chance to get to know Tucker once more. And when you read Tucker and Emma’s housemate rules I hope you aren’t in public – because you won’t be able to stop yourself from laughing out loud (their DJ names are hilarious!!!)

What neither of them count on is developing an attraction to one another…. Tucker’s good looks, toned body and lack of shirt turns Emma head also as much as Emma’s gorgeous smile and Playboy-inspired poses (OMG so funny!!!) turn Tucker’s head (and another part of his anatomy!).

You won’t be able to put this book down as you follow Emma and Tucker and discover just what happens when you fall for your best friend’s ex.

Meghan you’ve got a new fan and I’m looking forward to devouring more of your books!!!

Get ready to swoon

Mister Romance by Leisa Rayven

What can I say?! I fell in love with Leisa Rayven’s writing when I read the Starcrossed series but Mister Romance just blew me away!!

Eden is a romance sceptic whose top-notch journalist degree is being wasted as she writes click-bait pieces for a failing news site. What she needs is a big story – and the rumours of Mister Romance, a male escort who fulfils the romantic fantasies of New York’s richest socialites, sounds too intriguing to pass up.

Unfortunately Eden didn’t count on the man behind Mister Romance – Max….

I can’t say more without spoiling what is an incredible story that I couldn’t put down. There was laugh out loud moments, so much swooning, copious amounts of sexual tension and a fabulous story about love and romance.

Put Mister Romance on you’re must read list – you won’t regret it!!

Five Cheezels!!

Plight by K.M. Golland

What can I say?! This is another fabulously written book by KM Golland that had me laughing, crying and almost crying from laughing !!

A romantic comedy at its finest you can’t help but fall in love with Elliot and Danielle as they rediscover each other after a very long time apart. And to think it all started with a cheezel proposal.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It’s the right mix of love, laughter, emotion, sex and overall just a really brilliant read. You’ll be hooked to the very last page 😀
